The Tanzania eVisa system allows eligible travelers to apply online to visit the United Republic of Tanzania, including Tanzania Mainland and Zanzibar. Applicants fill the online form, make payment and submit the application for internal review.
After submission, applicants are notified through email and can also track progress through the online visa system. When available, the Visa Grant Notice can be downloaded through the visa portal.
Important warning
Official terms state that once the online application form is submitted, further modifications are not allowed through the normal process. Applicants should check names, passport number, date of birth, nationality, travel dates, visa category and attachments before submitting.
Applying for the wrong visa type or submitting insufficient information or attachments may lead to rejection.
Step-by-step guide
Confirm whether your nationality is visa-free, ordinary eVisa eligible, visa-on-arrival eligible or referral-category before paying or booking final travel.
Prepare a passport valid for at least six months, at least one unused visa page, a passport-style photo, return ticket and accommodation or host details.
The start page asks for email, passport number, passport issue country, security question and security answer. These details generate an Application ID for future reference.
Enter applicant details, passport data, travel purpose, first destination, arrival and departure details, accommodation or host information and the correct visa category.
Upload clear, readable files that match the visa type. Business, student, volunteer, transit or referral cases may need extra evidence.
Make the online payment, submit the application and save payment confirmation, Application ID and email notifications for your records.
Use Application ID, email, security question and security answer to continue an unfinished application or check submitted application status.
If approved, download the Visa Grant Notice and carry digital and printed copies for airline check-in and arrival immigration review.
A Visa Grant Notice is not final authority to enter. Carry passport, visa notice, return ticket, accommodation details and purpose documents for entry checks.

Application ID
The Application ID is generated when you start a new Tanzania eVisa application. It is needed for future reference, continuing an unfinished application and checking the status of a submitted application.
Save the Application ID immediately with the email address, security question and security answer used in the form. Starting a new duplicate application without checking the old record can create unnecessary confusion or duplicate payment risk.
Referral cases
Applicants with refugee status, stateless status or nationalities under the referral visa category should apply online and wait for approval before travel. Official guidance advises referral applicants to submit applications at least two months before the travel date.
Referral applicants are not advised to pay for flights or accommodation before visa approval and may upload a trip itinerary instead of a flight ticket while applying.
After submission
The application is reviewed internally. Applicants may be notified by email and should also track progress through the online portal.
Official guidance states that online visa applications are processed within ten days except referral visa category cases.
